President/Newsletters/Bulletins
A NOTE FROM THE PRESIDENT The days pass by quickly and the years pass by quicker and that makes me older quicker!! Nevertheless, I am thankful for my health and happiness and all that God has provided to me. I am thankful for Our Savior’s Lutheran Church and the people who gather here. A beautiful place to come and worship as well as enjoy good conversation, fellowship, laughs and sometimes tears, share ideas and sometimes concerns, sing praise and sometimes work---what a place! Tim Salo and I continue to share the Secretary duties as well as we can. It seems to be working. Tim is amazing!!! He doesn’t get crabby, and he also wears many hats around here and in the community. We work well with Pastor Greg and Diane Boback with special music and bulletins. Thank you, Diane, for all your great music and your creativity with special occasions such as Christmas, Easter, Memorial Day, Patriotic Days, Veterans Day, Thanksgiving, etc. Thank you to Beth Getman for filling in as musician when needed. We are fortunate. The past year we have again been fortunate with no major breakdowns with the church property. Thank you DuWayne Peterson for providing materials and building the nice porch on the East side of the building. Thank you Mark Boback for assisting him with installation. Thank you also Mark for replacing the railing on the South Steps. It is good and sturdy now. Thank you to all that assist in the maintenance of our properties. This year the women of the church took on a new fundraiser to cover their donations to various places. The Meatball Dinner in April was a huge success and received lots of compliments. I guess it was a bit easier than making lefse as we are going to do it again this year. The dinner has been scheduled for April 28, 2025. Hopefully, the men will help us out again. As always, we are always looking for new members and retaining our current membership. We are very happy to see some new people recently at church and please know you are very welcome here. We love visiting with you and Pastor loves having you here. We are still working on Sunday School and youth activities. We have very few young people but that is not going to stop us from offering some type of program. Hopefully, we will get this off the ground soon. The children that come here are very important and special and we need to have a spiritual agenda for our special young people. Again, I would like to thank all of the officers, board members, committee members, musicians, staff, WELCA, quilters, “Rippers and Strippers”, readers, altar guild, Eucharist ministry volunteers, snow removers, lawn mowers and all volunteers of the congregation. We greatly appreciate all the help we get from people who do not attend this church as well. I am very proud to serve as President of such a great church and phenomenal congregation. I love bragging to other people about what this little church does and accomplishes as I am very proud. I enjoy everything I do here, and I pray I am meeting your expectations. Again, I say, I know that Our Savior’s Lutheran Church is a great place to be and the best place to make friends. Have a happy, healthy, safe and blessed 2025. Mary Hess, President As we continue to “connect”, our Ladies Luncheons are on the second Tuesday of each month at noon or when you can get there. Please plan to attend and enjoy good laughs and fellowship. Bring a friend. A huge thank you to Mary Castle for organizing the Church Potluck Picnic on August 4 as well as a heartfelt thank you to all who assisted, brought food and attended. Great food and fellowship. What more can we ask for? We are blessed. Three of our youth will be attending Vermilion Bible Camp in July. We wish Ollie Feldt, Sawyer Feldt and Matias Honkola a wonderful spiritual learning experience and a great time. Please keep them in your prayers. Congratulations to our High School Seniors, Danny Knapper and Eldrid Peterson. Graduation isn’t the end of a tough journey, it’s the beginning of a beautiful one. Sunday May 12, 2024 Mother’s Day, Senior Graduate Recognition and Quilt Dedication. Cake and Ice Cream will be served at coffee an. Last day of Sunday School. Our quilts, bandages, and other mission projects will be dedicated and blessed. The quilters will be putting the quilts on the pew backs with signs pinned to them to “GIVE THEM WINGS”. You may pin a donation to the quilt which will help pay for LWR shipping. The quilts will be on the pews after Wednesday, May 8, so the Graduating Seniors may select their quilts. They may pin a slip with their name on it to their chosen quilt. They will be presented with their quilt at the Sunday, May 12thchurch service. Please come and congratulate our seniors! Fall is upon us. Fall is my favorite season of the year, however, I don’t really appreciate the cold and snow this early. To me, it is a time when things settle down more after the busy summer. It is also the time that I reflect MORE on giving thanks and sharing. We have been informed that there is greater demand at our Area Food Shelf. Within this newsletter you will find more information on our local food shelf and a listing of their urgent needs. There is a container in the NARTHEX provided for food shelf items. Mark your calendars!!! The WELCA Christmas Dinner and Silent Auction has been scheduled for Monday, December 11, 2023. Auction items are appreciated. Proceeds from the silent auction go to a good cause. Please invite your friends. This is a very nice evening. More details to follow. If you wish to donate auction items or make reservations, please contact Kate Undeland at 218-780-2436. This is a bit of late news, but our quilters entered several quilts in the Embarrass Fair this year. Our quilts took first, second and third place. Congratulations. Both are quilters and bandage rollers are very busy and very much appreciated. Thank you. I would like to thank all of the volunteers that help in the church in some way. Our volunteers and all members are very important. Our church would not function without you. Thank you all. Sunday School is back in session with Jill Dickinson as our Leader. Thank you Jill. She can always use volunteers. Bring your children to Sunday School. It is a fun time and a great way to learn more about God. Included in this Newsletter is our November calendar. During the month of November, we have several special worship services: All Saints Day, Veteran’s Service and “Give Thanks” Service. Hopefully, now that summer is over, we will see more members (and guests) at worship service. Great fellowship. Our Nominating Committee is in the process of seeking candidates for future terms. This is not an easy task and we do appreciate your willingness to serve. Say Yes! At this time, I would like to wish everyone a Happy Thanksgiving. We are so fortunate to be so blessed. Give thanks and remember prayer is powerful. GOD BLESS YOU Mary Hess, President Our Bible School Camp was a huge success again this year with 24 participants. Thank you to Katie Feldt for her organizing and leadership along with Jill Dickinson, Kristina Peyla and Connor Feldt. You did an awesome job. I also want to thank all who worked in the kitchen, cleanup crew and the Stewardship Committee for the great lunch on Friday. Our Savior’s Lutheran Church is so fortunate to have such talented and ambitious hands always willing to help. I thank all of you. I know the summer months are very busy with family, vacations, etc., and I especially thank those who give up their time in the summer to lend a helping hand at church. WE HAVE AN AWESOME CONGREGATION AND I AM SO GLAD TO BE A PART OF IT. Thank you again. Hopefully, with fall approaching and kids back in school, we will see more members back in church. We miss you. Feel free to bring your friends. GOD BLESS YOU ALL.
